The thyroid in regulating the body's need for energy produces acidic thyroid hormones, the principal ones being triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine which can sometimes be referred to as tetraiodothyronine (T4). These acidic waste products or hormones indicates the acitivity of the thyroid and the rate of metabolism or acitivity of every system of the body from the lymphatic system to the vascular system.
