This is what Dr. Michael Greger of NutritionFacts.org spoke about in his incredible presentation at Vegetarian Summerfest on Saturday night. This is the perfect way to describe the fact that the human body is designed to maintain homeostasis and stay healthy. If we stay out of its way, it will act in accordance with its design and fight off foreign invaders, heal wounds, and strive for health. This is the job of the immune system. My favorite metaphor for this is a scratch on the skin. If you pick at it daily, it will have a hard time recovering. But if you leave it alone, it will heal itself rather quickly. Another one is if you are banging your head against a wall and have a headache, taking pain meds may limit the pain symptoms, but only stopping the act of hitting your head against the wall will stop the cause.

*The Right Conditions:
--->Eat a wide variety of nutrient-dense whole plant green foods.
--->Avoid animal products and processed foods.
--->Move more.  Exercise daily for at least 1 hour.
--->Maximize mindfulness and stress reduction.
--->Limit exposure to aoidic toxins by choosing organic when possible, avoiding cigarette smoke and other air pollutants when possible, minimize use of medications, opting for filtered alkaline water, avoiding plastic containers and certain metal cookware (aluminum, copper,and nonstick), using natural beauty products and home cleaning products, etc.
